26th Woman of the Year Awards Luncheon - The annual MCW Woman of the Year Awards Luncheon was held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Omni Hotel, 1050 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, QC H3A 2R6. The 2012 winner is Shirley Rind Cohen. See details on WOTY page. Photos to come.
Celebrating October Women's History Month - Honoring Women Journalists on October 4, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. sharp: LINDA KAY, Chair of the Department of Journalism at Concordia, former journalist, first female Sports Writer for the Chicago Tribune spoke about the journey that inspired the creation of the Canadian Women's Press Club in the early 1900's, and her book "The Sweet Sixteen". She was joined by a panel of journalists: JANET BAGNALL , Montreal Gazette; SONALI KARNICK, CBC; JAMIE ORCHARD, Global TV; LEA ROBOAM, Freelancer; CAMILLE ROSS, CTV; and NANCY WOOD, CBC. MCW received an invitation from President and Vice-Chancellor Frederick Lowy of Concordia University to celebrate the loan of MCW’s Tapestry to Concordia: Concordia Invitation. There were some short speeches by members of Concordia and MCW, followed by refreshments. Concordia Video Special mentions: Tapestry Committee in 1993 Jeanne Maranda, originator of the project and one of the women who stitched the Tapestry together; Past President 1996-98 and MCW Honorary Vice-President Sophie Economides, organizer of the Cultural Mosaic Program and one of women who stitched the Tapestry together in 1993, MCW Honorary Vice-President Mary Howsen, one of the women who stitched the Tapestry together Shirley Cohen, artist embroider for Tapestry who sewed 20 squares for the Federates
